POLITICAL SCIENCE: Introduction to (Western) Political Thought

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 1:25 PM until 2:45 PMPacific Daylight Time UTC -07:00

“How should we live together?” If you’ve ever asked this question, then you are a budding political theorist. This course introduces you to a loose, if rich, tradition of answers to this question. A selective survey of so-called “western” political thought, we engage works from ancient Athens to modern Europe and North America, of Fredrick Douglass to Aristotle, Thomas Hobbes to Simone de Beauvoir. Over the course of the semester, you will hone your practice of political theorizing in dialogue with this tradition.
