BIOLOGY: Developmental Biology

Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:25 AMPacific Daylight Time UTC -07:00

With an emphasis on principles common among many living organisms, this course explores the beauty and wonder inherent in the developmental processes that are shaped on a multitude of levels including genetic, cellular, organismal, ecological, and evolutionary. Throughout the course, we will practice the steps of scientific investigation, honing our observational and critical thinking skills. To address questions about how body patterns are generated, the morphogenetic processes that generate organ systems, the cellular and molecular processes that determine cell fate, tissue growth, and regeneration, we will engage with a multitude of audiovisual information, read and discuss primary literature, recreate and/or embody classic experiments, perform new investigations, and share our knowledge with each other and the general public. Along the way, we will struggle and we will be amazed as we confront and expand the limits of our understanding.
